Your Essential Guide
With summer just around the corner, chances are your boiler hasn’t really been on your mind. It isn’t something that we rely on as much in the warmer months, but there are some things that you should do right now to ensure that it is in good working order. From booking your annual boiler service to taking a few simple steps to ensure that your boiler is in good working order, here are our top tips on preparing your boiler, and your plumbing, for the warmer months.
Book your boiler service
Before you do anything else, book your boiler service! This will ensure that your boiler is in good working order, and doing so during the summer months means that any issues found during the service can be resolved before winter, the time you will need it the most. We are a fully qualified, Gas Safe registered team with years of experience when it comes to carrying out boiler services and we will give yours a thorough once-over.
Use summer mode
Lots of people turn their boiler off entirely in the summer months, but that isn’t always the best thing to do. That’s because boilers are made up of a lot of moving parts and valves that can seize up and break if they are left off for too long. A much better option is to put your boiler in summer mode, something that is available on most modern combi boiler models. This turns off the central heating system but allows for hot water to keep running through the system as and when you need it.
If you aren’t sure how to activate summer mode or if your boiler has it at all, don’t worry. Just ask one of our engineers when they are carrying out your boiler service, and they will show you what buttons to press and any other tips on caring for your boiler in the summer.
Bleed your radiators
You aren’t using your radiators much in warmer weather, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t benefit from being bled every so often! If you had a radiator that wasn’t warming up efficiently at the end of winter, bleeding it now can help to prevent issues further down the line. Bleeding a radiator is quick and easy; you don’t even have to call us out to do it!
Don’t let summer entertaining wreak havoc with your plumbing
Summer brings with it time spent making memories with friends and family, whether that’s drinks in the garden or a BBQ. If you are doing a lot of entertaining this summer, be aware of plumbing dos and don’ts. Don’t pour any cooking grease or other food waste down the sink, and make it clear to guests that nothing other than pee, poo or paper should be flushed down the toilet!
